Improving O’Hauser- Work Day- Sept. 24th

For those of you have been hearing rumors, O’Hauser Disc Golf Course is in fact changing it’s course design. Many new pads have already been poured. (Check them out, 3 new pads on most holes, literally colored gold, silver and bronze, and adding a whole new level of play to the existing holes already!) When the new course design is complete, O’Hauser will become an even more competitive course with a much higher quality level of play, from the tee to the pin. We are pleased to see that we are elevating the level of play and the quality of disc golf courses in our local area.

Currently, the plan of action is that the pins will be pulled for winter. (This is a change for this course, as it the pins are usually left in throughout the winter months.) The pins will be put back into the ground, in the new design, when the spring returns. It is also the plan that IN THE SPRING, (specifically, NOT AT THIS TIME) O’Hauser will likely become a “pay to play” course. The small nominal fee that will be charged will help maintain the course and add to the funds devoted to continue to develop the course in positive ways. We will post more details as they emerge, though certainly if you are unfamiliar with the many benefits of a “pay to play” course, we suggest you take a look at Vallarta DGC (better known as  Token Creek Disc Golf Course) in Madison, WI. Generally speaking, “pay to play courses” boast benefits such as cleaner fairways, better landscaping, pad repair, and fewer incidents of vandalism among other things.

The Appleton Area Disc Golf Club urges all of you to get involved in this process. We are organizing an O’Hauser work day on September 24th.  Specifically, the pads and fairways need attention at this time. We will begin at 9am. We ask that you consider bringing work gloves, rakes and shovels. When work is complete, please stick around and play a round of golf with us on the best pads in the valley. Additionally:

For every hour a member works on the O’Hauser course, that member will receive a free day to play on the new layout when it transitions into the “pay to play” format.

So, September 24th, 9am, bring your gloves, rakes, shovels and plastic! And thank you for helping us grow out sport in the Fox Valley!

Disc Golf for Gabe- Standing Rocks Park on July 31st

Gabe Harder, a long-time employee of Howard Johnson’s in Wausau, was critically injured in a bicycle crash the evening of June 25th. He was wearing a helmet, but hit a tree, and suffered head trauma and multiple bone breaks, among other injuries. Gabe has not regained consciousness and remains in a coma.
Gabe started and ran several disc golf leagues and could always be counted on to help build and maintain area courses. He has probably played your course and has introduced many friends to disc golf over the years. Gabe is facing a very long road to recovery and needs our help. Everyone is welcome to play some disc golf on the fantastic course or just enjoy the food, fun, music and camaraderie in the ski lodge.
